Oratio Mix: Awarded with the Erasmus+ “Good Practice” Label

The Oratio Mix project, coordinated by several European partners and led in France by La Transplanisphère, has been awarded the prestigious Erasmus+ “Good Practice” label for the quality of its educational, intercultural, and artistic approach.

Intercultural Dialogue Through Orality and Creativity

Oratio Mix was designed to renew intercultural dialogue in schools through orality and the practice of eloquence. It targets all school levels, from nursery to high school, and offers artistic workshops, European exchanges, interviews, teacher training, and public events. With the support of teachers and associated artists, students experiment with intercultural dialogue by creating and staging collective narratives. Each culture is invited to enrich the shared story, fostering inclusion, creativity, and mutual understanding.

Pedagogical and Social Impact

The innovative dimension of the project lies in the ability of Oratio Mix workshops to develop students’ oral expression and creativity while addressing contemporary European issues—such as diversity, citizenship, and alternatives to violence through speech. The project makes its methodology, feedback, video tutorials, and testimonials freely available, helping educators across Europe adopt and spread these practices.

The Erasmus+ “Good Practice” Label

The “Good Practice” distinction is awarded to Erasmus+ projects that stand out for their innovation, rigorous management, and tangible results. To receive the label, a project must achieve a high score during the final evaluation by the Erasmus+ National Agency, based on relevance, overall quality, impact, and transferability. This label is a mark of recognition, boosting the project’s visibility and reputation across Europe.

An Open and Shared Methodology

Oratio Mix is unique in providing free access to its educational resources (workshop guides, videos, etc.), building a mosaic of European testimonials, and creating a network to exchange ideas among teachers and students from the four partner countries (France, Portugal, Italy, Germany).

Oratio Mix symbolizes a new way of envisioning education in Europe, putting expression, the arts, and interculturality at the heart of learning and living together.

Final partners meeting

The Oratio mix partners met to take stock of the project after two years of research, devising artistic methods and testing.

The meeting took place at the Agrupamento de Escolas André de Gouveia in Évora, Portugal, with the collaboration of the artistic partner ExQuorum and the participation of the German, Italian and French partners.

On 10 and 11 March 2023, the partners evaluated the various outputs of the project (research, methods, videos). They also exchanged views on the promotional initiatives undertaken for these productions. The meeting concluded with the final report to the Erasmus Agency and a round-table evaluation of the project as a whole.

Teacher training

In the implementation phase of the project, the first artistic workshops took place in the partner schools in order to test the methodology with the artist-teacher duo.

After this first test phase, it is now time to train the teachers to implement the methodology!

From 29 October to 1 November, the Oratio Mix teacher training took place in Paris and Le Raincy (France). The company Transplanisphère welcomed the teachers and representatives involved in the project, in order to allow them to familiarise themselves with the method. The aim will then be for them to apply it in their respective classes, independently.

In this context, we received 23 people, including European teachers and representatives of artistic structures, a nice mix of skills and culture. The objective of these 3 days of training was to present the pedagogical sequence proposed by Oratio Mix, to put it into practice and to exchange on the first feedbacks.

The training was led by Bruno Freyssinet, artistic director of the project, and Noémie Laurens Besace, actress and drama teacher, in English and French.

Jour 1 :

The first day of the meeting took place at the Relais Culture Europe, it was the opportunity for all the participants to meet for the first time!

The programme included a study of the project theory with the presentation of the methodology, the pedagogical tools and the objectives of Oratio Mix as a whole.
Several presentation sessions took place, in order to answer any questions the teachers might have before the start of the programme.

The first day was a good one, with a general good mood, in a spirit of meeting and exchange!

In the evening, the participants enjoyed a trip on a fly boat on the Seine, in a friendly atmosphere.

The next two days took place at the Lycée Albert Schweitzer, Le Raincy (93).

Jour 2 :

On Saturday, 7 students of the Master 2 Intercultural Communication & Project Engineering of the Sorbonne Nouvelle were present. They will work all year long on Oratio mix as part of a tutored project led by the Transplanisphere. The students will contribute to the survey on intercultural education, to the evaluation of the impact of the methodology and to the creation of a feedback platform.

Saturday was all about exercises and practice! The teachers had the opportunity to try out the methodology’s exercises for a day. This was a necessary step, as they would then have to implement these exercises in class with their students. At the end of the day, we collected feedback from each teacher, and it was time to discuss their feelings and the areas they wanted to improve.

Jour 3 :

The last day followed the rest of the learning process.
In the morning, we focused on the content of each sequence. As the methodology is aimed at the whole school spectrum, different modules adapted to the levels are proposed. Group workshops were therefore organised according to school levels, from kindergarten to high school.
The afternoon was dedicated to a time of exchange between the teachers. The project leaders were present to answer the last questions before the launch of the Oratio mix workshops in autonomy.

These days allowed a nice mix of culture and exchange since teachers and artists from 4 European countries participated in this project. It was a time to exchange on practices, working environments, problems and experiences of each one!

We would like to thank all the teachers and artistic representatives who made the trip for these training days. We would also like to thank the Relais Culture Europe and the Albert Schweitzer high school for their welcome in their facilities.

We are happy to announce that the Oratio Mix 93 project has been selected by the department for the Agir in Seine-Saint-Denis call!

With this project, La Transplanisphère joins forces with Francas Seine Saint Denis and extends the European project Oratio Mix to the field of popular education!

The objective is to adapt the Oratio Mix methods, which aim to tackle intercultural dialogue through artistic creation, to other youth audiences. This, by working with young people from a leisure centre, a Roma community, a municipal youth council and isolated minors.

The project is part of the Strategic Partnerships 2021 – Partnerships for Creativity call of the Erasmus + programme. The project will last 2 years and will evolve in 4 European countries (Italy, Portugal, Germany and France).
The project is coordinated by Transplanisphere and brings together 12 European partners. These partners come from both the educational field (nursery schools, elementary schools, secondary schools and high schools) and the artistic field (4 artistic companies).
The objective of Oratio Mix is to co-design pedagogical methodologies to address intercultural dialogue at school, through theatre and expression.
